Thanks so much for the shout out Hannah! And for sharing your wisdom - I especially love your re-frame about remembering that each and every subscriber is a "breathing human being who likes my work enough—and trusts me enough—to give me their email address and allow me into their world." Beautiful❤️🙏🕊️

Thank you - this is really encouraging. And such a great reminder that 30 subscribers does NOT mean the same as 30 followers on Insta etc. I am finding that Notes are doing nothing for me either, and trigger RSD as I compare myself to other writers whose notes seem to take off even though they're posting similar things to me. So it's refreshing to know we can just take the option of ditching them!

Hi Morgana - yes here's to ditching Notes and looking after our wellbeing 😊

Sometimes I see other people’s notes take off and think ‘why?’, its often the same trite old tropes or ‘hot takes’ used to see on Instagram and Twitter. They make me cringe 😂

Thanks Hannah! As we just get set up and started, you offer some good tips here for wrangling substack. We're using the platform as a home for a 'live book writing' experience and nurture knowledge community- I think we might be stretching the original design concept of substack!! I'd been wondering about creative ways to use the Notes tab, instead of it being a social media look alike. I've been trialling using it as a community building tool- restacking others fab posts and jammin with them. Also today, had another idea: check out using Notes as a place to put a summary TL:DR posts 1-3...

Hi Hannah, I just wanted to say thank you. I particularly loved what you wrote about one great post once per month being more valuable than a weekly post for the sake of it. My own energy has demanded this of me and the less (self inflicted) pressure I feel, the better the piece tends to be. It’s emboldening to see you write about this & actively encourage it ❤️

Hi Sophie. So glad you found it helpful. Yeah, I've taken months completely off here and there when I've needed to and it's never affected my open rates or engagement. Thank you for your appreciation! 😊

Thanks for this. Not sure how I missed the ADHD conference in Manchester, I totally would have gone!

Hi Susan - ah that's a shame it would have been nice to say hello in person. It was organised by Seed Talks, I'm sure they'll have another next year as it was very well attended :)

I love this, Hannah! Hah - my friend (and business accountability partner) said she read this and was like, "It seemed like she wrote it for you." I know it's not just for me...but that doesn't make it any less applicable. Thank you!

Thank you for this post. It has landed just as I’m starting to feel discomfort from participating in my first Notes challenge. I'm going to see it through because I have made a commitment, but I far prefer the slower paced, more topic focused conversations that I find much more natural, here in the comments on other people’s work, and my own.

Even the words 'notes challenge' gives me the shivers... well done for seeing it through now you've committed to it - really respect that. And yes I'm the same - I just prefer everything slower. Thanks Katherine :)

Thank you for expressing so perfectly what I’ve been pondering lately. I love when someone’s words resonate with my own thoughts and feelings. I know I don’t need permission to disregard notes, but you’ve given me freedom to do so! 🫶🏻
