It’s essential. I honestly didn’t realise that when I was younger. Thanks so much for linking - that’s v generous 🙏🏻Like you I’ve got friends from around the world now who I met travelling who I still keep in touch with regularly and we discuss all of our past and future adventures. I recently went to stay with a Brazilian friend who now lives in Lanzerote who I met in Vietnam years ago. Thanks Alana! I hope you’ll enjoy the rest of the story 😊

I love traveling alone and have eaten alone in restaurants since I was very young. It’s an important step in finding out who you really are and what you want from life!!

Oooih love this! Am actually in middle of my piece for next week about the importance of women (married or single, mothers or not) to be alone, to travel, eat, explore, own space alone so I’ll link to this story. I had travelled a lot alone and when my marriage ended it was a real adventure to do it again (with a lot less confidence... until it grew). I’ve met so many good friends now who were travelling alone too... but one of my favourite things in life is ordering a glass of wine by myself with a book in town or on holiday... can’t wait for Part 2!

Hi Hannah and readers,

I've traveled alone for many years now, with a few exceptions over the past two years when I had a partner. Now that he's left, I'm back doing it alone again. I should note that I don't even have a home base at the moment.

I used to resent all the people who'd ask why I traveled alone. I was happily single and not about to seek a boyfriend just to have someone to bring along. The few times I've tried to coordinate a trip with a friend, they've either not been interested/available or flaked out during the planning.

Then for a while I had a terrific travel buddy in my partner, James. We had incredible adventures together. But he ended up being afraid of commitment, and this past November I went to Fiji alone on a trip we'd planned to take together. It was painful, but I'm still glad I went.

It will take some time for me to explore again without wondering what James would have thought of this place or that one, but I'll never stop traveling.

Hi Trinity. Thanks so much for sharing your solo travel experiences. I am envious of your trip to Fuji - it must have been difficult to go alone when you’d planned it with someone you wanted to share it with but these experiences help us to grow don’t they. I’m sure you’ll get back into the groove of it soon xx
